  • Striving for new epidemic prevention business opportunities. The Export Processing Zone Administration (EPZA) supports Kaohsiung Software Park (KSP) enterprises to strive for smart health-care business opportunities.

    The global spread of the COVID-19 epidemic has prompted a large demand for "zero-contact" for telemedicine and precision medicine. Many smart health-care tools developed by enterprises in Kaouhsiung Software Park (KSP) have also caught the attention of medical markets during the COVID-19 pandemic. Through strategies such as enhancing research and development momentums, cultivating talents, expanding business opportunities, connecting resources, and counseling enterprises to develop solutions for scientific and technological epidemic prevention, EPZA expects that enterprises in KSP could become new forces of smart epidemic prevention teams, and motivate industries within the parks upgrading further.
    Before the COVID-19 outbreak, many enterprises in KSP have actively developed telemedicine and AI health care related products which could just meet the practical needs of this epidemic, reducing the risk of epidemic spreading through human-to-human contact. In addition, many AIoTs are applied to interpret the condition of patients accurately and rapidly in the case of keeping professional health care and patients in "zero-contact", which presents opportunities for developing telemedicine and precision medicine.
    EPZA noted that many products of enterprises in KSP have into the practical application phase. For example, Sil Radar Technology Inc.'s "Contactless Vital Sensing System" has applied to the negative pressure isolation room in Kaohsiung Medical University, "Smart Mattress" developed by MWG Technologies Co., Ltd. has applied to Kaohsiung Municipal United Hospital and Kaohsiung Municipal Kai-Syuan Psychiatric Hospital, Exentric Technology Corp.'s "Lung Disease Forecasting System" has applied to National Cheng Kung University Hospital, and "Cardiac Arrest Vital Early-warning Announce System" and "Ventilator Fall Off Stage Information Data Visualization" has applied to Chi Mei Medical Center, Bai Shi Technology Ltd.'s "Epidemic Monitoring Situation Form" has applied to Medical Affairs Bureau Ministry of National Defense which is in charge of overall planning for Armed Forces General Hospital. Moreover, Asia One Medical Co., Ltd. and Dynamic Computing Technology of Foxconn Technology Group cooperate to develop the "AI Assistance Image Interpretation System".
    In order to actively make KSP become a demonstration site for the smart health care industry in southern Taiwan and expand the market of smart health care, EPZA has launched 4 major measures, hoping to assist enterprises to seize smart health care business opportunities during the COVID-19 pandemic.
    1. Enhancing research and development momentums: interagency and surrounding momentums of universities and research institutes integration, which facilitating related research and development division to station in to provide technical research and development support and consulting services for enterprises nearby.
    2. Cultivating talents: cooperating with the platform alliance of 26 university presidents in southern Taiwan to assist matchmaking talents that enterprises badly in need, and concerning the need of enterprises, EPZA could customized training programs, reserving talents for the future and become the strong backing of industrial development.
    3. Expanding business opportunities: promoting AIoT innovative empirical field demonstration application, facilitating business matchmaking and technic cooperation, and create substance business opportunities.
    4. Connecting resources: introducing technology development programs and assisting enterprises to apply for resources of government subsidy by professional consulting teams, spurring the development of comprehensive industries in EPZs.
    According to EPZA, the investment percentage of enterprises in KSP in major industries such as information software, digital content and smart applications accounts for 70 percentage of the park. It shows that the development of the digital medicine industry in KSP has advantages of development since it has a solid foundation. Going forward, EPZA will keep introducing industry, university, institute resources to assist enterprises in improving their technological momentums, and attracting more smart medical enterprises to station in to gather the strengths of enterprises to develop a variety of scientific and technological epidemic prevention products and services, so that, KSP could become a demonstration site for the smart health care industry in southern Taiwan.
